I can promise you that our cookie day was none of the above, but I still like the word extravaganza, so it stays.
I have been trying to establish some fun Christmas traditions this year, and a cookie day is one of those new things. Chris' grandma, his mom, and his sister came over today so we could all bake Christmas cookies together. I'm not kidding when I say we did this all day. We started around 9:00 and finished close to 6:00.
I'm hoping my memory will serve me well and I'll be able to list all the different types of cookies we made. I don't think I'll get all the names right, but I'll do my best.
There were:
Chocolate Chip - classic
Chocolate Chip with m&m's instead of chips - red and green m&m's of course
Spritz Cookies - the ones you make with a hand press
Lemon Tea Cookies
Chocolate Drop Cookies
Pecan Cups - like little mini pecan pies
Santa's Whiskers - they had candied cherries & pecans in them and coconut on the outside
Cappuccino Cookies - made with instant coffee and dipped in chocolate
Peppermint Marshmallows - soooo good in a cup of hot cocoa. Here's the link to the recipe: Peppermint Marshmallows
I think that's it. We did mix up some cashew nut cookies and some gingerbread man dough, but we just ran out of steam and didn't make them. They both require refrigeration, so we'll probably get them done in the next day or two. It's probably a good thing that we're only going to do this once a year, because I don't think I could handle it more often than that!
Chris was awesome and spent the day hanging out with Samantha so I could bake. At one point she took a little spill and bumped her head. She had a pretty good bruise forming so I put some frozen peas in a baggie to put on her head. She was not having that! Apparently baggies of peas aren't as much fun on your head as they are when you're playing with them.
Holy cow - I feel tired (& strangely hungry) after reading this! Those marshmellow things sound AWESOME! The only ones I'll get around to making are my Mint Chocolate Oreo Balls. They're pretty simple - 3 ingredients + a microwave = yum yum dessert! I'm really falling off the baking wagon. It's too bad :( I do love sweets though so I'm holding on to the few recipes that are quick & easy & delicious! Hope you enjoy a day of non-baking today! And munching on some...yum :)
ReplyDeletePS - little girls with awesome face/head bruises are so cool - let S know B said so :)
Ah yes, those marshmallows are to die for but watch out for them - you can get a sugar high really fast. No sleep for me last night (sigh)
