Close Call

We've had a bit of drama with our cat Kitty (quite the creative name, I know). A little over a week ago Chris noticed that she has lost a significant amount of weight, and started to worry that something serious was wrong with her.
This morning I brought her in to the vet's office to get her checked out. Right away he told me that she had lost 5 pounds since March, which is not good at all. He told me that it looked like she had an infection in her gums, but that he would need to rule out the possibility of kidney failure or diabetes before he could do any work on her mouth in good conscience. We went ahead and had them run a blood test on her, which came back clean. No severe illness found there.
I left her with the vet so I could go back to work and so they could get her mouth cleaned up. He did tell me that there would be a chance that she could have cancer in her gums. If that turned out to be the case he would call me right away so we could decide what we would do (ie: so we could let him know if he should put her down).
We made the decision that if her gums turned out to be okay other than the infection they would groom her while she was under so she could sport her lion cut for the holidays.
I recieved the call from the vet at lunch time today that they've finished up with her procedures, she's doing fine, and I could pick her up after work. We get to keep our Kitty! We had honestly kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that she probably had a life-threatening disease and we would have to let her go. We sure would have missed that ball of fur. I'm glad she's going to be okay, now we just have to get her to eat!
Here she is with me on the couch after I got her home tonight. She's recovering, and isn't in much of a mood to do anything other than lay around. I think she's kind of cold too, since she has so little hair left after her grooming session. I'm letting her borrow my favorite quilt for awhile in hopes that it keeps her toasty!
